Hey, Folks!

Well, this is certainly shaping up to be an eventful week. The big news, on a very personal front, is the woman who was responsible for my best friend Wendy Cook’s death was sentenced to prison this morning. Wendy was killed in a drunk driving accident precipitated by this woman back in 2018 which now feels like a million years ago. The Apocalypse really drew out the court situation which is why this situation has been kind of hanging in space for so long. Wendy’s mom contacted me this morning to pass on the news. I can’t really bring myself to say “good news” because there was nothing “good” about this situation. The person responsible for her death did not just kill my friend, but also shattered the lives of everyone close to her, mine included, and it is the kind of damage that will never heal. It took me a long time to get past the burning rage I felt for this complete stranger and now all I am left with is the ashes of broken dreams and the loss of one of the most important people in my life. Even if this person had been dropped into a deep hole and was sentenced to 1,000 years it would not do one thing to make the situation any better. Wendy would still be dead and I will still never see her again. I suppose there is a certain amount of closure, but for me I will reliving that awful day for the rest of my life. It’s a wound that will never completely heal. Please, my friends, do not drive drunk…the damage you could potentially do extends far beyond a simple traffic accident.

Fantasticon is going on this weekend downtown at the Seagate Center on Saturday and Sunday. The show will be running from 11am-6pm on Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sunday. I’m sure there are probably still plenty of free tickets floating around out there, although we are currently out of them. The admission is $13.00 on Saturday and $10.00 on Sunday. Monarch won’t be set up at the show as I can’t justify the cost when the show is “right down the street”, but we will be open normal weekend hours so feel free to shuffle by after you’ve visited the show. It looks like it will be a lot of fun and while conventions are really not my thing anymore I know that many of my friends and customers have a good time. Bring your tickets stub into the store after visiting the convention for 10% off your total purchase!

I’ve been picking up some new back issue stock for the store recently and Brian has been doing a good job of getting it sorted, bagged, priced, and filed! Recently added titles to the back issue bins include Amazing Spider-Man, Darth Vader, and Incredible Hulk, along with a smattering of other titles. Definitely check them out and make sure you ask Brian as he has a better idea of what was in the comics we picked up as he is the one who has processed them all. I just picked up a pretty big Avengers collection as well as those will be filtered out over the next week or two. Also, make sure you take a good look at the showcases and the dollar boxes as many additions have been made to both places.

Hill and I will be visiting Hocking Hills this weekend and so I won’t be in the office on Friday or Saturday this week. I promised Brian that he could attend Fantasticon and so I will be back on Sunday to run the store. I considering reneging on my promise, but I thought that would be a @#$% move…lol. In any case, I hope everyone has a great weekend and I hope to see you next week!
